2023 Winter Storm Support

Currently, Highway 1 on the Big Sur coast remains closed between Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County and Deetjen’s Inn in Monterey County at PM 42.2, due to slides and washouts from ongoing winter storm events.

Since late December, 2022, some residents have been isolated between one of six road closures.

This means that supplies of food, fuel, medications and mail have been unreliable. Kids have been out of school and employees have not had work.

The Big Share has participated in two major resupply missions.

The first, on January 27th, 2023 was a multi-agency effort lead by Big Sur Fire with Monterey County and California Highway Patrol. Our volunteers personally delivered 8000 lbs of food and supplies to our South Coast residents via CHP helicopters

On February 5th, 2023 The Big Share and Big Sur Fire took to the backroads with two trucks and a trailer, full of essential food, mail and medications.

As storms have continued to hit the coast, the road conditions are ever-changing. Our team continues to monitor the needs of our neighbors, and be ready for the next resupply mission.

As always, we appreciate your SUPPORT in making our efforts possible. When you DONATE, your dollars go directly to purchasing supplies and fueling vehicles for transport.
